Brand Promise

Peaks, not paperwork.

Brand Archetype

The Explorer. Adventurous, resilient, authentic, inspirational, respectful. Driven by the horizon, not the destination. A guide — never the guru.

Imagery

Imagery policy differs by lane. The visual system (colour, type, composition) is shared; the source of imagery is not.

Mountaineer.fi (Expeditions & Content Archive)

  • Authentic: Real expeditions, named photographers. No stock libraries, no AI peaks.
  • Cinematic: Wide frames showing scale — tiny humans against vast geography.
  • Natural: Full colour, natural contrast, subtle vignettes. No heavy filters or presets.
  • Reverent: Action over pose. Hands and gear over headshots. The mountain leads the composition.

Every frame should look like it was taken with a numb finger.

Remote Valley OS (Open Source)

RV-OS uses AI-generated imagery and content so the blueprint can scale to new regions, modules, and languages faster than photography allows.

  • Depict the system, not just the scenery: the five pillars and their connections are the subject.
  • Brand palette is mandatory: glacial blue #A5D8FF, ice white #FFFFFF, charcoal #2D3436, sunset orange #E17055 accent.
  • Documentary realism, not sci-fi: hopeful, dignified, self-reliant. Never cyberpunk, neon, or megastructure.
  • Consistent world: keep terrain, light, and architecture coherent across the whole image set.
  • No text baked into images — headlines and labels are overlaid in HTML, never rendered in the picture.
  • Label honestly: AI imagery is generated illustration, not a photograph of a real deployment. Do not present it as documentary evidence.

Hero image prompt (Remote Valley OS)

Used for the home page hero. Composition keeps the left third clean for the headline.

Cinematic wide editorial photograph of a remote Himalayan village nestled in a terraced valley at golden hour, altitude ~3,000m. In the foreground, a small community workshop with a 3D-printer and a stack of recycled filament spools; nearby, a stainless water tank with filtration pipes, apple crates bound for a cold-storage shed, and a compact EV cargo trike at a charging point. On the hillside, a modest solar array and a run-of-river micro-hydro intake; on the far ridge, a slim mesh-network antenna with a small solar panel. Thin, elegant glacial-blue (#A5D8FF) light filaments arc between the systems, tracing the flow of energy, water, materials, and data — subtle, like a circuit diagram drawn in light. Warm sunset light, deep charcoal shadows (#2D3436), snow-capped peaks in the distance, thin cold air, drifting woodsmoke. Shot on a full-frame camera, 35mm lens, f/8, natural colour, high dynamic range, documentary realism, no text. Composition leaves clean negative space in the left third for a headline.

Specs: 16:9 (plus a 3:2 crop for the half-width hero), 2560×1440+, documentary realism, brand palette.

Negative prompt: text, watermark, logo, signature, distorted faces, extra limbs, sci-fi megastructure, neon cyberpunk, futuristic city, satellite dish farm, cartoon, illustration, 3d render, plastic look, oversaturated, HDR halo, lens flare spam, stock-photo handshake, tourists, corporate imagery, clutter, busy composition

Variants: ground-level dusk (village lights on, 24/7 power); aerial valley (five nodes as connected points); human-centred (operator + resident at the 3D printer).

Iconography

  • Clean lines, rounded ends, no clever metaphors
  • Stroke: 1.5–2 px on a 24 px grid
  • Rounded caps and joins
  • Limit each icon to a single concept

Available icons: Mountain, Compass, Ice Axe, Binoculars, Summit Flag, Elevation, Old Map, Journal, Snowflake, Sun, Wind, Vintage Camera

Do / Don’t

DoDon’t
Use authentic photography from real expeditions. Name the photographer.Use clichéd stock imagery or AI-generated peaks.
Maintain generous whitespace. Let the layout breathe.Use busy layouts that compromise readability.
Honour mountaineering history. Cite sources.Alter historical facts, dates, or attributed achievements.
Highlight human stories — climbers, Sherpas, families.Introduce a third typeface or invent colours outside the palette.
Pair Caveat and Montserrat — and nothing else.Use trendy effects (drop shadows, gradients, blurs).

Remote Valley OS Sub-Brand

RV-OS uses the same colour system and typography but with distinct messaging:

  • Tagline: Fork the Alps. Climb the Himalayas.
  • Principle: Regenerative by design, open by default.
  • Voice: Pragmatic engineer voice. Lowercase, technical, modular. Less manifesto, more README.
  • License mention: Visible in all RV-OS materials (CERN OHL-S / AGPL-3.0 / CC BY-SA 4.0)
