Remote Valley OS
An open-source blueprint for building regenerative systems in remote communities. Starting in Jumla, Nepal. Free for the whole world.
If the world’s toughest environments can run on circular systems — powered by the sun, fed by local resources, maintained by local people — then any community can.
This is a construction project. Everything we build is open source. Every design, every line of code, every training guide is free to download, adapt, and deploy.
The Five Systems
| Module | What It Does | |
|---|---|---|
| ⚡ | Energy | Solar + hydro + wind micro-grid. 24/7 power. No diesel. |
| ♻️ | Trash to Tech | Plastic waste → 3D printer filament → parts, tools, goods |
| 💧 | Water | Contaminated water → safe drinking water at every charging station |
| 🍎 | Food | Organic apples → cider, vinegar, dried products. 10x farmer income. |
| 🚗 | Logistics | EV corridor + eVTOL. Charging stations every 50km. |
| 📡 | Mesh | Decentralized LoRa + Wi-Fi network. Offline-first. Local LLM. |
The Residency Program
Engineers, scientists, makers, and educators live in Jumla for 3-12 months. They build systems alongside local teams. They document everything. They train local operators until they can run and repair every system independently.
Within two years, local Master Trainers run everything. Outside help becomes optional.
Open Source
All hardware designs, software, firmware, documentation, and training materials are published under open-source licenses.
- Hardware: CERN Open Hardware License (CERN OHL-S)
- Software: GNU Affero General Public License (AGPL-3.0)
- Documentation: Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0
