The Story Angles
Angle 1: Open source meets the developing world
Open source transformed software. Now it is transforming hardware and infrastructure. Remote Valley OS applies the open-source model to the physical systems that remote communities need — and proves it works in one of the most challenging environments on Earth.
Angle 2: From plastic waste to 3D printer filament
The trash-to-filament module turns a problem (plastic waste piling up in communities with no waste management) into a resource (3D printer filament for making replacement parts, tools, and educational materials).
Angle 3: A residency in the Himalayas
The residency program invites engineers, designers, and community organizers to live in Jumla for 3-12 months, building and maintaining infrastructure alongside local residents. It is part Peace Corps, part open-source hackathon.
Angle 4: The local LLM running on a microgrid
One of the most unexpected components: a locally-hosted large language model running on the village microgrid, providing AI-powered assistance for maintenance, education, and healthcare — completely offline.
Angle 5: The EV corridor in the mountains
An electric vehicle corridor spanning 50km in one of the most rugged landscapes on the planet. Charging stations powered entirely by renewable microgrids. Cargo eVTOL drones for emergency supply delivery.
