О Remote Valley OS
Мы создаём инструменты для самых удалённых мест на Земле. И отдаём их бесплатно.
История
In May 2026, a small team spent three weeks in Jumla District, Karnali Province, Nepal — one of the most remote and logistically challenging regions in the Himalayas. Accessible only by air or a multi-day 4WD journey, Jumla concentrates every problem that remote communities face.
We walked the land. We studied the rivers, the sun, and the wind. We mapped waste streams and agricultural value chains. We talked to farmers, shopkeepers, mothers, and young people.
The conclusion was clear: remote regions are not poor in resources. They are rich in sun, water, wind, soil, and human ingenuity. What they lack is the integration — the systems that connect what they have to what they need — and the training that keeps those systems running.
We came back with a plan.

Everything Is Open Source
Hardware designs, software, documentation, training materials. All published under open-source licenses. Free to use. Free to modify. Free to share. No one owns it. Everyone owns it.
Knowledge Must Outlast the Installer
The reason most development projects fail is not bad technology. It is that knowledge leaves when the installer leaves. Our model ensures knowledge stays. Every step is documented. Every operator is trained until they can fix the system blindfolded.
Local People Become the Experts
Within two years, local Master Trainers run everything. The residency becomes optional. The knowledge belongs to the community. We design for our own obsolescence.
The Blueprint Bends to Fit the Place
This is a starting point, not a finished product. Every community that uses it should adapt it to their crops, their climate, their language. The blueprint improves with every adaptation.
Название
Remote Valley OS is named for what it is: an operating system for remote valleys. Just as an operating system manages a computer's hardware and software, RV-OS manages the systems that sustain a community — energy, waste, water, food, mobility, communication. It connects them, monitors them, documents them, and ensures they keep running.
The project lives as a subdomain of Mountaineer.fi because we believe solving problems at the edge — where conditions are hardest, where failure has real consequences — produces solutions that work everywhere.
Peaks, not paperwork.
Команда
Remote Valley OS is a project of Mountaineer.fi — a platform dedicated to innovation in the world's toughest environments. We are a distributed team of engineers, designers, educators, and community development practitioners based in Nepal, Finland, and beyond.
